The Marriage Proposal
Pop the Question - Your Way!
So - Mr. Groom-to-Be - you've finally decided it's time to ask that special girl in your life to be your wife. You may be a little timid about doing the old "down-on-your-knee thing" or you might think that's just not your style. You don't have to ask for her hand in the traditional way. There are so many ways you can pop the question. Zeroing in on the way that's best for the two of you is the trick!
That special night (or day) is not just for her. It's something you'll remember for the rest of your life and you have the power to make it that much more memorable. You can ask her in front of the world or in a quiet intimate setting. Take your cue from her while still being yourself.
Let me give you insight into the female mind. Not all of us, mind you, but most of us will tell you that we don't want to be "on display" when it comes to something special like a marriage proposal. It's uncomfortable, especially around family, to be spot-lighted while being pressed for an answer on such a life-changing moment. On the other hand, it is precious to us when a man shows his love for us in a public way. If you have the courage - and you KNOW she will not be embarrassed by the attention - and you KNOW that she will say "yes" - and you can do it in a sweet, special way - be adventurous and do the marriage proposal up in a big way! If you think that it may be uncomfortable for either one of you, select a nice, intimate setting that won't put the spotlight on you.
The Restaurant Marriage Proposal
If you have a favorite restaurant (or just a place you've always wanted to go) why not prepare in advance with the Maitre' de or the Management for them to participate. They can "present" a bottle of wine to her with the proposal written on it. They could present her with the ring - served in a beautiful keepsake box in the place of dessert - or just before it. (We have the perfect personalized box just for that!). You could go the old-fashioned route and present the ring to her on your knee in front of everyone at the restaurant. If she's not the type to be intimidated by being on display she would feel like a queen and I guarantee you will get applause from the patrons at the tables surrounding you when she says "yes"!
The Romantic Night at Home
If you prefer the intimacy of being alone with your intended when you propose to her there are many romantic ways to set the mood. Candles! What could be more romantic than that? If you are a chef at heart prepare a dinner fit for a king (or queen in this case) and light candles everywhere. Turn the lights down low and have romantic music playing softly in the background. Set the table with a bouquet of roses or any flower you know she likes. If you can't cook -- order in -- but still set the mood. You could even have champagne glasses engraved with your names and the proposal date to remind you always of the day you asked her to marry you.
Not all proposals center around food although an intimate dinner is the perfect setting. There are the ballpark proposals (announcing it over the intercom), the surprise question out of the blue while doing laundry together, and the knight in shining armor who rides up on a white steed and carries her off into the sunset... Well, you get the message.
However you decide to ask her to marry you - make sure that it comes from the heart - that's what matters most.
Here are a few items that might help make your proposal a little more special...
