A Bout with Bullwinkle! wpeB.gif (3091 bytes)

I used to be sad that I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet... at least I think that’s the way the old saying goes. I don’t know about shoes. I do know about the troubles one can have with ponds. Just when you think you have come across every problem that can happen to a pond keeper consider this case in Idaho...

On July 31st, while cruising the net, I ran across this entertaining article by Laura Shireman with The Spokesman-Review about a couple who videotaped their encounter with a moose.

The couple was Al and Karen Hutson from Athol, Idaho. They are members of the Inland Empire Water Garden and Koi Society. I personally do not know Mr. & Mrs. Hutson but I empathize with them.

One morning around 10:30 a.m. a moose came out of the woods and made his home in their pond. According to Mrs. Hutson, "He took up the whole thing! Two-thirds of the pond was moose!" Mr. Hutson, who videotaped the whole episode, tried to shoo away the moose but the animal charged him. Eventually the moose made his way back to the woods.

The most humorous quote from the article was "We have a moose in our pond and he’s eating all our lilies".

So, when you think you’ve seen it all, think of the Hutsons who thought they had — and remember — you probably ain’t seen nothin’ yet!
