The American Koi is not a "Domestic Koi" although it was bred and raised on American soil (or in American water in this case). Blueridge Fish Hatchery, located in Kernersville, North Carolina spent many years developing these fine fish. They bred the American Koi from the same outstanding Japanese brood stock as the imports but raised them here in the States and away from the diseases that have plagued the Japanese and Isreal stocks these past few years.

The Domestic Kohaku is orange and white. The American Kohaku is brilliantly red and white. The Domestic Sanke is orange and white with black freckles. The American Sanke is deep red and white with sumi so black the spots along his back appear to be painted on like fingernail polish. The Domestic Platinum Ogon is a white fish with fleshy tones under the skin. The American Platinum Ogon is so white it appears to glow in the dark.

You say the Japanese have been producing beautiful Sankes for years? Blueridge Fish Hatchery has seen to it that American Koi now have the colors and the beauty without having to go through the stress of traveling from overseas at a fraction of the cost. American Koi, as a rule, are stronger, healthier and hardier than imported koi. As an added bonus they have something the Japanese do not have — American Butterflies!

The premier batch of show quality American Koi are out of quarantine and ready for sale at The Pond Doc’s Water Garden Center. We are proud that we carry one of the largest and best selection of Blueridge’s newly developed koi.

Come see them before they are gone!
