The practice of swallowing goldfish is only the beginning of the tortures these beautiful creatures must suffer in the hands of humans. You’ve probably seen the Ecampus commercial on television that portrays a hungry college kid frying his roommate's pet goldfish. The fish, a Ryunkin I think, looks so real that it made me gasp in horror. What kind of message are they trying to send to our children about how to treat an animal?

According to 2000 Daily Collegian via U-Wire, several people have complained about the commercial to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and PETA has sent letters to Ecampus. These letters have yet to be taken seriously by Ecampus.

We give a big THUMBS DOWN to Pennsylvania State University Anthony Lascola (senior-business logistics) for his comment that he didn’t see the issue as offensive, that although he believes in animal rights, the killing of a goldfish was not a serious thing. The article quoted Mr. Lascola as saying, "If they were killing a dog or a horse or something like that to make a point, that would be wrong."
