because your water is clear doesn't insure your water is safe!
Don't be fooled by clear
water. It can be clear and deadly. Testing the water and
achieving a balanced eco-system are important to the success of your pond.
- When to test:
- Established ponds should
be tested about once a month unless there are other factors such as
adding new fish (increasing fish waste) or if you should experience any
fish death or if any fish are acting strange.
- Test new ponds every week
for at least a month when first stocking the fish.
- Anytime there is a bad
reading of ammonia, pH or nitrites you should test everyday until
stabilized.
- Anytime the fish are dying
or acting strangely.
- Before calling us, be
prepared to have test results handy.

pH readings fluctuate during the day so pH
testing should be done at several different times. Pond fish prefer a pH range of 6.8 to 8.0.
Less than 6.8 means the water is too acidic / More than 8.0 means the
water is too alkaline. A pH crash can kill every fish in the
pond. Prevent fluctuations in pH by using a
pH
stabilizer.

PondCare's Ammo-Lock Ammonia Detoxifier by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals
Detoxifies the effects of
ammonia on pond fish. Also works as a de-chlorinator and removes
chloramines from tap water. Especially
helpful when chloramines have been added to the water supply or during
times when the pond is experiencing ammonia problems.
Note: PondCare's Ammonia Drop
Test will not give accurate readings whenever AmmoLock is used.
