Chlorine from municipal water sources burns the gills of your fish and create problems with plants. Whenever you change more than 10% of your pond's water you must use a de-chlorinator or your fish will die. De-Chlorinators are available with and without extra additives that do more than de-chlorinate the water.

De-Chlorinators with Heavy Metal Removers
It's good to use a heavy metal remover from time to time. Water builds up these metals over time that could harm the environment. Use in place of the regular de-chlorinator periodically or if you have a problem with metal in your water system. Heavy metal neutralizers are used in well water as well as tap water.

PondCare's Ammo-Lock Ammonia Detoxifier by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals

Detoxifies the effects of ammonia on pond fish. Also works as a de-chlorinator and removes chloramines from tap water. Especially helpful when chloramines have been added to the water supply or during times when the pond is experiencing ammonia problems.
