How to Service Your Emperor Aquatics Ultraviolet Water Sterilizer
Specific Service and Parts Replacement Instructions for Smart UV High Output (HO) Units
The Schematic below shows all the parts to the Emperor UV:

The difference between the Smart UV 12 through 130 watt models and these high output models is that they are built for larger ponds and can take higher water flows, often negating the need for a by-pass.
Diagram Overview
As you can see from the schematic above, the UV Lamp (#1) connects to the Power Supply (#6) via a 4-prong Connector (#2). The Quartz Sleeve (#14) is inserted into the Main Body of the UV (#15). The White Plastic Gasket Nut (#13) is slipped over the open end of the Quartz Sleeve and the Quartz Sleeve Gasket (#12) is inside the Nut to keep the Nut tightly on the end of the Sleeve. The Clear Quartz Sleeve Retaining Module (#9), along with several O-Rings (#s 11, 10 and 8) is attached to the open end of the Sleeve and a large Black Retaining Nut (#7) is screwed onto the end the Main Body and hold the complete Quartz Sleeve Assembly in place and keeps it water-tight so moisture cannot seep into the inside of the Sleeve. The Lamp that is attached to the Power Pack is inserted down into the middle of the Quartz Sleeve Assembly and screwed into the Black Retaining Nut (#7) with the Grey Power Supply Adaptor (#4).
If Your Lamp Blows...
We recommend that lamps be replaced once a season because they will lose their strength and be less effective. If you notice that your lamp is lit still but your water is becoming increasingly more green then, likely as not, it's time to simply change the lamp. But - if your lamp goes completely out and blows, especially if it's not yet a year old, there may be another part that needs to be addressed.
Here are a few things that can happen to a UV to make the lamp not light up:
The Transformer (Power Pack) Might Have Blown - The power pack cannot get wet inside and should not lay in puddles of water. If water gets inside the power pack it can short out your system and it will blow any new lamp you plug into the power pack. This can get expensive. Before plugging in a new lamp you might want to shake the transformer and listen for water.
80 and 130 watt units purchased before the 2008 season came with only one transformer that plugged into both lamps. This was changed and now the units come with two universal transformers. If you need to replace the power pack you will need an extra outlet and you'll need to order two transformers.
The Quartz Sleeve May Be Broken or Have a Hair-Line Fracture - These delicate glass tubes are very easy to crack and should be handled with utmost care whenever removing or inserting it. If water freezes inside the main housing of the UV it will crack the sleeve. The best thing to do is bring the whole unit inside for the winter or at least bring in the glass parts. If the least bit of moisture gets inside the glass tube at to the electrical connection of the lamp, it can blow the lamp and the transformer as well.

Here's a simple way to check for leaks in the Quartz Sleeve:
Remove the lamp and power supply but leave the pump on and the UV plumbed into the system. Roll up a dry paper towel and stuff it into the open end of the quartz sleeve. Let it run for a couple of hours. If the paper towel stays dry the quartz sleeve is intact. If the sleeve is cracked badly you will know right away.
How to Replace the Lamp

Make sure the power supply is not plugged in to the electric outlet and the UV is OFF.
Unscrew the Grey Power Supply Adaptor (#4). This is the small nut at the very end of the UV where the power cord comes out of.
Gently pull the lamp out of the unit.
Grasp the lamp firmly and pull it off the 4-prong plug.
Plug your new lamp into the 4-prong plug.
Carefully insert the lamp into the open end of the unit.
Screw the Grey Power Supply Adaptor (#4) securely into the unit. Hand-tight should be fine.
Plug the UV back into the power supply and you are all set!
How to Replace the Quartz Sleeve

If the Quartz Sleeve Gaskets and O-Rings have not been changed in a couple of years it is a great idea to replace them when replacing your Quartz Sleeve. If you are not changing the gaskets out be sure not to lose any of the ones you take off the old sleeve. Also, the Quartz Sleeve is very sharp if it's broken and can cut your hands very easily. Take extreme caution when handling the glass!
Turn off the pump and the power supply to the UV. Close all valves from the water source to the UV.
Remove the lamp and power supply.
Unscrew the Black Retaining Nut (#7). This is the large PVC nut that holds the Clear Quartz Sleeve Retaining Module (#9) in place.
Remove the whole Quartz Sleeve Assembly carefully from the UV Main Housing.
Remove the white Quartz Sleeve Gasket / O-Ring Retaining Nut (#13), the Quartz Sleeve Gasket (#12) and the Quartz Sleeve O-Ring (#11) from the Quartz Sleeve.
Line up the Gasket / O-Ring Retaining Nut (#13), the Quartz Sleeve Gasket and O-Ring and the Clear Quartz Sleeve Retaining Module (#9) onto the new Quartz Sleeve.
Insert the assembly into the main housing. The rounded closed end of the sleeve will seat into a rounded cup inside the end of the UV Main Housing. You will need to gently move the sleeve around until it seats into the groove.
Screw the large Black Retaining Nut (#7) onto the end of the UV and secure the Quartz Sleeve Assembly to the unit. Tighten it down as tight as you can get it with your hand.
Open all the valves from the water source to the UV. Turn on the pump and allow the system to run for a few minutes.
Check for any leaks around the Retaining Nut. If there are any drips coming out, take a wrench and tighten the Nut down until the dripping stops. If the drips continue, it could be that the O-Ring inside the Nut is not seated correctly. Turn off the pump and close the valves again. Loosen the nut and check the O-Ring.
Once the system runs without any dripping you can insert the lamp and power supply and turn on the UV for normal operation.

Every couple of years - some like to do it every year - you should change all the rubber gaskets, seals and o-rings on your UV. They stretch and/or get brittle with age. These rubber pieces are what protects your unit from leaks and leaks can cause bigger problems. We have complete service kits with everything you need as well as just the Quartz Sleeve Gasket and O-Ring. The service kit also includes o-rings that fit inside the unions but not all units have o-rings. An 80-watt and 130-watt UV will need two quartz sleeve gaskets and quartz sleeve O-ring - one for each sleeve. The service kit only comes with one so you will need to order an additional Quartz Sleeve and Gasket Set or two Service Kits.
The
Wiper Assembly
Unless you specifically purchased a unit with a quartz sleeve wiper you will not have the wiper assembly on your UV. If you did purchase a model with the wiper you can see the Parts Diagram for it by clicking HERE.
