SuperFlo External Pumps for Ponds Up to 2500 Gallons

Here they are! Finally... a lower priced, efficient external 2-speed pump especially suited for the majority of the ponds out there - ponds between 600 and 2500 gallons. The SuperFlo external pumps are reliable, quiet and efficient (when run on low) and are perfect for koi ponds and water gardens with waterfalls less than 5 ft. high and shorter streambeds. It is also self-priming up to 3 ft. so you have the flexibility of locating your external pump above the waterline of the pond. Extra large leaf basket allows more run time between emptying it. Run the pump on LOW for maximum energy efficiency when filtering the pond during normal operation. Flip it up to HIGH simply with a touch of the included 3-way switch to backwash a bead filter or to show off white water rapids to friends.

The PRICE of an external pump is generally higher than its submersible counterpart. The COST of a submersible pump, however, is much higher in the long run. Here's why:

Energy Efficiency
A 4000 gph 1/4 hp ProFlow™ external pump runs off 3.1 amps and costs $438.00. It's submersible counterpart, the 4000 gph submersible pump can run up to 9.5 amps and costs $203.95. In one year's time you will easily save the difference in the price of the two pumps ($234.05) on your electric bill! Many external pumps are 2-speeds. Normal operation of the pump is usually run on low and on quality models such as the ones we stock the low speed is extremely energy efficient. The only time that most folks would use the high setting would be while backwashing a bead filter or "showing off" in front of company.
External Pumps Tend to Last Longer
We find that submersible pumps tend to wear out after about 1 year from debris getting inside and damaging the impeller. (I always joke that the submersible pump will last as long as its warranty). The external pump's pre-filtering is on the outside of the pond and people tend to empty the basket more often because it is more convenient plus the pump itself is not sitting in the sludge on the bottom of the pond. The external pump tends to last MUCH longer before needing any repairs or replacement. Most submersible pumps (with a few exceptions) carry a 1-yr. warranty. External pumps pull water through bottom re-circulation drains and fish-safe skimmers so all large debris can be easily removed by shaking out the leaf-baskets attached to the side of the pump and in the skimmer. Heavy and wet submersible pumps must be lifted from the bottom of the pond and cleaned at least once a week during pond season. This can become a major problem for senior citizens and others who can't lift heavy loads.
