Skimmers

Skimmers do the job of continually "raking" leaves and other debris, including foam and proteins, off the top of the water.  There are many types including fish-safe especially designed for koi ponds and side-skimmers that are great for water gardens without fish.

Fish Safe Skimmer

Fish Safe Skimmer
This skimmer can be installed directly into the side of the pond or without making a hole in the liner.  It attaches to a PVC arm that protrudes from the wall of the pond via a bulk head fitting.  Another method would be to use hard PVC and have it attach over the side of the pond.  The basket inside the skimmer floats up with the water level which gives a little room for lower water levels before it begins to suck in air.

Side Skimmers
Here, at Pond Doc's, we have a history of slamming the side skimmer.  It's because we have so many fish health issues we must address with side skimmers that we tend not to push them.  There are times, however, when a side skimmer may be exactly what you need.  Fortunately, there are many from which to choose -- Unfortunately I haven't had the time to get them up online so give us a call at (404) 375-9599 and we'll find the right one for you.
