Macrobiotic Koi & Goldfish Foods
for Healthy Koi and Goldfish

Don't fill your koi and goldfish up with "junk food" that contains filler such as corn.  Go the macrobiotic route and provide good nutrition with every bite.  Look up the word "macrobiotic" in the dictionary and it will say "healthy".  The Pond Doc cares about the overall health of your koi and goldfish.  Along with water quality and good filtration what your koi and goldfish eat determines their lasting health and vitality!

Read the contents of many of the koi and goldfish foods out there on the market and you will find corn fillers are one of the top three ingredients.  With the exception of corn gluten, all corn meals, etc. are mixed in the food to make it "go further" - kind of like what Mom used to do with the Hamburger meat.  The corn fillers will not harm your koi - they just don't help them.  In fact -- those fillers are not digested and become "fish poo" adding more trash to your pond water and load to your filter.

Pound per pound you'll also find that the same lower quality fish foods with corn fillers have high prices.  We are amazed at how much folks will pay for a pound of fish food - $10 or more in some cases - and you are not even getting good quality for your bucks!

Our M-Grow, M-Color and M-Wheat koi and goldfish foods are formulated as a medium high quality so they are affordable (much less in most cases) while providing excellent nutrition.  Yes, there are higher quality fish foods out there but they carry a hefty price.  We have great nutrition at lower prices.  We challenge you to find comparable quality koi and goldfish foods for less.

Here's a few articles that will give you more information about koi and goldfish foods, how much to feed your fish and what to feed them when:

Read what T. Parks has to say about our Macrobiotic Fish Foods:

"I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful product.  Late in the season, I purchased some of your food for my koi.  What a difference!  They are more energetic, colors are brighter, visible growth.  I am very new to the koi world so I didn't realize what a difference the food could make."
T. Parks

Staple Koi and Goldfish Foods   Staple foods are the ones you feed to koi and goldfish during most of the season.  It's high in protein to help your koi and goldfish build up and store the fats they'll need for the lean winter months.  Feed staple foods when the water temperature is over 62 degrees and the weather is stable.  Feed them all they can eat in 5 minutes then remove any that's left.  We like to feed out guys 2 or 3 times per day - but - your filter will dictate whether you can feed them as much.  If you find any readings of ammonia or nitrites, cut back on the amount of food you are feeding them.

Hikari Staple

Higher Protein Staple Foods   Especially formulated for large koi, these foods have a higher percentage of protein and are a cut above the rest in quality.  Some of them are extremely high priced.  The M-Grow GOLD is the most affordable.  Feed these foods the same as you would regular staple foods.

    M-Grow GOLD

Color Enhanced Foods   Color Enhanced koi and goldfish foods are the same quality and protein levels as the staple foods but they have one ingredient that enhances the red coloring of the fish.  Feed them color foods just like you do regular staple.

    M-Color Hikari Gold

Seasonal Koi and Goldfish Foods   Seasonal koi and goldfish foods are formulated with wheat-germ and a lower content of protein for cooler weather.  When the water temperatures are lower than 62 degrees and higher than 50 degrees the fish are still hungry but their metabolism is slower.  Wheat-germ based foods are easier to digest.  Feed wheat-germ based foods when the water temperature is between 50 and 62 degrees and only 1 time per day.

    M-Wheat Hikari Wheat Germ

Medicated Koi and Goldfish Foods   Medicated koi and goldfish foods are formulated with antibiotics to help fend off internal infections.  Feed antibiotic food to koi or goldfish who have ulcers, septicemia, dropsy, fin rot or mouth rot.  The best medicated foods contain more than one antibiotic to attack different types of infection.  The pond water must be at least 68 degrees for the antibiotics to work properly.  When treating with antibiotic food feed your koi and goldfish ONLY the medicated food for two weeks then take them off the antibiotics altogether.  You can also feed antibiotic food as a preventative treatment.
