HydroMax Filters for Koi Ponds, Goldfish Ponds and Water Gardens
by Emperor Aquatics

For Water Gardens up to 3000 Gallons* or Stocked Ponds up to 1500 Gallons*

Heavy-walled polyethylene construction insures that your HydroMax pond filter will last for years to provide the excellent filtration for your koi pond, goldfish pond or water garden.  This filter contains a spacious settling chamber with 3 six-inch brushes to provide mechanical removal of solids.  Thick padding follows that filters out and holds finer solid waste.  The HydroMAX PRO with its Bio cell media provides an optimal environment for the colonization of nitrifying bacteria - something any koi pond should never be without.  A 37-watt Ultraviolet Water Sterilizer Unit is also available in an upgraded model or as a retrofit upgrade later to keep the pond clear of free-flowing algae.

The HydroMAX is installed at the top of the pond feeding the waterfall or uppermost pond.  The maximum water flow through the unit is 1000 gph.  (You can't have more water coming in than going out - otherwise the unit will overflow.)  The inlet port is 1".  The outlet port is 2".  It is equipped with a knife (or gate) valve for easier waste discharge.  It's not a hard filter to clean but, because it is a pad system, it does require more maintenance than a bead filter.  Weekly cleaning of the brushes and pads during pond season is necessary.

*The standard model consists of the pads and brushes and is mainly for mechanical removal of solids.  It provides little biological filtration so it's great for water gardens up to 3000 gallons that do not have fish loads or if other biological filtration is present on the pond.  The HydroMax Super contains the standard settling chamber with pads and brushes and a 37-watt UV.  Again, there is little biological filtration to this unit so we wouldn't suggest it for a koi pond or pond stocked with goldfish if it's the only filter on the pond.  The added UV benefit of 37 watts will only clear up about 2000 gallons MAX in the shade so you might not want to put the UV upgrade on any pond over 2000 gallons.  The HydroMax Pro contains the settling chamber with the pads and brushes, the UV upgrade and the Bio-Cell Biological filtering upgrade.  The UV part will not clear up ponds over 2000 gallons and the effectiveness of the biological portion depends on the amount of fish load.  You could probably use it for lightly stocked ponds up to 2000 gallons.  It's perfect for ponds that are between 1000 and 1500 gallons with average fish loads.  The Pro model is also great as a filter add-on.  If you have a bead filter, for example, placed before this filter you would have a GREAT filtering system and the HydroMAX would not need weekly cleanings.

The HydroMAX filter is versatile.  You can purchase the standard model then upgrade it later with several options.  The UV is available as an add-on as is the Bio-Cell Media.  There is even room for a 2nd UV if you need it.  There is also a Weir Kit for sectioning off the chambers.  An easy to understand instruction manual is included with the purchase of a HydroMAX filter.  Replacement Pads, UV Lamps and other Parts are available here at PondDoc.com
